If you go to Google.com and do a search for almost any keyword phrase, you’ll notice some “Sponsored Links” that appear on the right side of the screen that are relevant to the keywords you just searched for.
You’ll also see similar results when you do searches in MSN and other sites. On few web sites you will see ads within web site or at a side same like this image.

You are Publisher. You will have a web site and you will apply for goole adsense account. If Google accepts it, you will get some code to put in your HTML source code. That code will show ads by Google on your web pages.
Whenever any of your web site visitors will click on ads by Google, Visitor will goto advertisers web site. Now advertisers paid some money to Google, and Google credited your account with some % or money he got from Advertisers.
